I miss mix tapes and homemade burned CD's from friends. This was always one of my most favorite things. What a beautiful way to get closer to another person and learn about new music. I still have a plethora of CD's that were made for me, and I cherish them. If you made me one, I bet I still have it. No joke. This Christmas, I'd love to make you, my dear friends, a "mix-tape" - but no one even has CD players anymore, much less tape players - lol. So here is a playlist for you! Merry Christmas!! (Pssst - if you want to make me one, or share a song or two with me that moves YOUR soul, post it in the comments below or message me, it would light up my heart!) <3 you!
This playlist I've made for you is called, "Songs for the Soul". Often in the winter months, I find myself drawn inward to a quiet time of reflection. I also find that is is a natural time to explore my shadow side, which we all have and many of us avoid. These are some of my favorite songs that break my heart wide open for one reason or another. I hope they break your heart too - because a broken heart is a great strength, and a beautiful gift. I also love to sing my soul out to these selections. For me, singing is one of the most healing and empowering activities that I can take part in. I highly recommend it.
It never fails when I am done sitting with my darkness, after I allow my heart to break - I always (ALWAYS!) find inspiration and a rush of energy fueling my soul. I feel unstoppable. My wish for you this winter is that you allow yourself to break, you spend time with your fears, insecurities, with the darkness and the unknown...,and then (and only then is it possible) you allow yourself to fly.
She Don't Like Roses - Christine Kane
This song is so beautiful to me because it speaks to how we change (naturally, without any effort) when its' time. We don't "do" life, life lives through us. When we decide to 'take a step away from the fast lane', magic begins, shifting happens without effort. When we decide to BE, to rest, to trust life, to become life itself - without resistance - that is when life really opens up and we find ourselves. My favorite line: "..and if all your dreams come true, do your memories still end up haunting you?"
