"Three marathons in three days wasn’t enough for Chuck Milliman.
In 2010, the Sequim resident celebrated his 78th birthday by doing exactly that (26.2 miles per day for a 78.6-mile total).
On Nov. 14 of this year, Milliman decided to go for 80 miles on his 80th birthday." - Michael Dashiell, Sequim Gazette
Wow! What an inspiring story that happened right here on the Olympic Peninsula (my home)! An 80 year old man who ran 80 miles on his birthday. Wonderful!
As I read this, and it really got me thinking about vitality and thriving. Why is it that some people thrive, and continue to thrive regardless of their age, health, income... and others only survive? What 's happening here? It can't be that people don't want to thrive... that they would rather live less then their dreams and passions.. so why do some people end up living their days out filling unfulfilled & trapped?
Those individuals that thrive, do so because they choose not to accept the hand they have been dealt, they refused to accept "good enough" as the standard for their lives..., they choose to take matters into their own hands & became the masters of their own existence, they choose to accept failure as part of the path to success, and refused to feel shameful about who they were, their faults, trials or failures. They thrive (sometimes even in the mist of powerful odds) because they use the most powerful tool available to each an every one of us. The tool of Choice. One person is not any greater or lesser then other - there is only the choices we make, and the results we get. You are unlimited potential - how are you choosing to use it?
